New Brock

For years, twelve-year-old New Brock’s family has been teetering on the edge, moving from one residential motel to another, trying to make ends meet. When a death in the family cuts off their emergency financial support, the bottom drops out of their world. Even when they move across the country to make a fresh start, trouble chases them. New’s mama stays out late drinking, leaving New to care for his younger sibling as his older sister runs wild. He tries his best to hang on to his family, but when he has to write a detention journal as punishment for fighting, he has to decide: Does he make a new life with his foster family or hold tight to the hope that one day his mama will return for them?
